About the role
As Finance Controller, reporting to our Founder and Commercial Director, your role has three streams to support and unblock our growth potential:
1. Working closely with our founders on elevating and continuous improvement of NAMED COLLECTIVE’s strategy, supporting all functions to build the necessary foundations to deliver our 3 year objectives.
2. Own and lead the finance function, overseeing the company’s financial planning and accounting operations. In this position, you will be our founders’ business partner; commercially aware and provide advice on the best path of growth for the business.
3. Close collaboration and support with our Business Operations Director, who managed our Operations, Technology & People functions, until newly hired Controllers / Directors take over these areas in the next 18 - 36 months.
For the right candidate, there’s scope to retain leadership of these functions and progress to CFO / COO role if you and the business hit their objectives over the next 2-3 years. It would be ‘yours to lose’.
Accountabilities will include...
Strategic Support - estimate 10% of time:
- Support founders to codify and continuously improve our strategy to deliver our goals and targets for the next three years.
Finance - estimate - 60% of time:
- Establishing targets, developing budgets, and performing financial analysis;
- Technical financial projects to deliver liaising closely with our Founders and SLT on setting the near, medium, and long-term strategic vision of the business and setting short, medium and long term goals for scalable growth alongside our executive team to increase revenues and profits;
- Oversee the financial strategic planning of the company by evaluating its performance and potential risks;
- Perform regular financial analysis;
- Manage all aspects of corporate governance & compliance including business /employers insurance, GDPR, and regular / ad hoc legislative requirements;
- Develop budgets that meet the requirements of company departments;
- Establish targets and manage all accounting and finance employees including management accountants and internal auditors;
- Supervise all audit and internal control processes;
- Prepare detailed reports on the company’s financial performance;
- Recognise patterns in company spending, revenue, and recommend solutions to any problem areas;
- Coordinate with external financial entities on behalf of the company;
- Maintain relationships with banks and financial institutions- ensure working capital funding and / or FX rates are efficient;
- Maintain relationships with insurance providers, ensuring the business is fully covered according to the details of the contract;
- Leading all financial planning and analysis (FP&A), including forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management, reporting against forecasts and responding proactively
- Ensuring compliance with, and accurate reporting of taxes including PAYE / NIC, VAT, Corporation Tax, Global Sales Taxes, Customs & Duties & Laws;
- Lead the build out of the finance function team / partners to perform requirements as the business scales;
- Management of all commercial IP such as trademarks;
- Full management of key operational third-party contracts including but not limited to IT & ERP.
Other foundations - estimate - 30% of time:
Operations
- Work collaboratively to develop and/or improve systems, processes, controls, and procedures that improve the overall efficiency of the business;
- Support operations team / head to support on strategies and execution of all supply chain operations, logistics and fulfilment;
- Evaluate and improve standards for supply chain, and overall business operations to minimise costs and maximise margins;
- Support the build out of fit for purpose Ops team, at the right time, to manage our planned growth.
Technology
- Ensure we have the right tools / tech at the right time, for internal users alongside external clients / users;
- Ensure all tools / tech are compliant to relevant laws / regulations;
- Support the build out of fit for purpose Tech team, at the right time, to manage our planned growth.
People
- Work with function heads and take responsibility to facilitate effective execution and make sure nothing ‘falls through the cracks’ especially which such a strong growth rate;
Overall
- Positively impact and influence internal stakeholders and external partners;
- Uphold the company brand and our values & behaviours.
About You
To succeed at NAMED COLLECTIVE, you must have an entrepreneurial mindset and a growth-oriented attitude. The ideal candidate must be comfortable with ambiguity and able to navigate the fast-paced and constantly evolving nature of our direct to consumer, e-commerce business. You must be willing to take calculated risks and have a bias for action, with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get involved in all aspects of the business. You must be a strategic thinker, with the ability to balance short-term tactics and objectives with long-term vision and goals.
You have:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in senior Financial Management ideally in the eCommerce / Retail or Manufacturing Industries;
- Experienced at working at Board/C Suite level;
- In-depth knowledge of accounting software, corporate principals, and financial analysis;
- Training for / recently qualified ACCA/CIMA or equivalent, but not essential.
